Read Through the Bible in a Year

We have begun to read through the Bible in a Year, following Dr. David Jeremiah’s reading plan, which proceeds through the books of the Bible in the order in which they appear. You can download the plan here. If you are interested in reviewing other plans and methods, you might try Back to the Bible.

An alternative daily devotional plan is to build relationship with the Lord through the Psalms & Proverbs

The Psalmists take almost every emotion to the Lord in prayer. The Psalms are rich in descriptions of the Lord’s character, mercy, grace, kindness, protection, provision, prophecy and so much more. When we lack the words to adequately express our thoughts and hearts to God, the Psalms can provide a way do that.

Many were written by King David, arguably the greatest King in Israel’s history, and possibly in the history of the world, thousands of years ago, yet he described many of the same attitudes that believers experience today, like repentance for personal sin, gratitude for victories, and faith through trials.

Proverbs is a collection of wise sayings, much of which was written by King Solomon.

Today’s Psalms & Proverbs

There are 150 Psalms and 31 chapters in Proverbs. If you read 5 Psalms and 1 chapter of Proverbs a day, you will read through the whole books of Psalms and Proverbs in a month!

For Psalms, It was suggested to me by a pastor a long time ago, to take the date and start there, then add 30 four more times, so, for example, the Psalms for the 1st of the month are 1, 31, 61, 91, and 121.

For Proverbs, just read the chapter for that day. For example, the Proverbs chapter for the 1st of the month would be Proverbs Chapter 1.
