Freedom in Christ ~ Epilogue

Coincidence?

I posted Freedom in Christ on February 14.

The next day, on Monday, I received the February 15 newsletter from InTouch Ministries. One of the items to further explore was “Hindrances to Freedom.” Clicking on the link, it took me to an invitation to sign up for a quarterly quide, to “Join us in 2021 and discover what it means to experience true freedom in Christ.” Here is the link to that invitation, in case you are interested.

On Wednesday, the 17th, my son was traveling from Pennsylvania to Tennessee. His trip had already been delayed by two days because of the weather, snow and ice storms blanketing both states, so he was anxious to get home. His flight landed at night and when he got to his car discovered it was covered with inch-thick ice. The roads were covered as well. He had about an hour’s drive to reach home. I was praying for his safe travel and God graciously answered my prayers. Afterward, I was so grateful to God that I wanted to continue in Him; I turned on Todd White on YouTube and selected “Hearing the Father’s Voice. ” (Now before we go any further, I know that Todd White is controversial.) Included in this message was the Father’s desire that we break “the Romans 7 cycle.” He was talking about the very subject of the post.

I am in the middle of re-reading John Bunyan’s “the Pilgrim’s Progress from This World to That Which is to Come Delivered Under the Similitude of a Dream by John Bunyan” (1678). Yesterday, I read the section where Christian and Hopeful are captured, imprisoned in Doubting Castle, and tortured, by the Giant Despair and his wife, Diffidence. Eventually, they are freed when Christian realizes he has with him the key called Promise, that will open any lock. They post a sign over the entrance where they strayed that led to their capture, so that others would be warned. The sign says: “Over this stile is the way to Doubting Castle, which is kept by Giant Despair, who despiseth the King of the Celestial Country, and seeks to destroy his holy pilgrims.” Then they sing this song: “Out of the way we went, and then we found What ’twas to tread upon forbidden ground; And let them that come after have a care, Lest heedlessness makes them, as we, to fare. Lest they for trespassing his prisoners are, Whose castle’s Doubting, and whose name’s Despair.”
