“And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. 13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.” ~~ Revelation 12:12-13 (KJV)
Many pastors believe that the next event in the timeline of Christianity is the Rapture of the Church. Some of the New Testament passages that teach about the Rapture are found in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11, 1 Corinthians 15, Matthew 24-25 and of course, the Book of Revelation. As explained in 1 Corinthians 15, the Rapture will occur in the “twinkling of an eye,” so there will be no time to make your peace with God. It will already have been decided, so we need to be ready, as our Lord explained in the Olivet discourse in Matthew 24-25.
My post titled “Plenty of Time”(?) explains that the hard, sobering truth is, apart from very specific, miraculous instances of prophetic grace, that generally, we do not know the day or the hour when we will meet our Maker, either via our own passing away from this life to the next, or via the next coming of Christ, the Rapture.
The first step in getting ready is accepting the Lord as your Savior:
Lord, I admit I am a sinner. I need and want Your forgiveness. I accept Your death as the penalty for my sin, and recognize that Your mercy and grace is a gift You offer to me because of Your great love, not based on anything I have done. Cleanse me and make me Your child. By faith I receive You into my heart as the Son of God and as Savior and Lord of my life. From now on, help me live for You, with You in control. In Your precious name, Amen (From Crosswalk.com)
Studying Scripture to increase our knowledge of and deepen our relationship with the Lord is one way to get ready. It helps us to get to know His voice.
When we say “end times,” many people immediately think of the Book of Revelation. From what I have learned so far (and I am still learning as the study of Scripture is a lifelong journey), end times prophecy actually begins in the Old Testament, in the Books of Daniel, Ezekiel, Isaiah and others, and culminates in the New Testament, with the actions and teachings of Jesus and the disciples (during the life of Jesus, he fulfilled at least 300 prophecies [some say 400], with at least 28 of them fulfilled during the crucifixion alone). The Book of Revelation, the last book of the Bible, is primarily the Revelation of Jesus Christ, who He is, and in fulfilling that purpose, also reveals details about “end times.”
Following are links to a series of videos and other resources that teach the Scriptures concerning the end times way better than I ever could. I wanted to gather these in one place for ease of reference. I hope you take the time to review them, consider them, and be confident that Jesus will see us through to the end.
Here are some, in no particular order (there are many more by Tipping Point – on YouTube, search for Jimmy Evans, Tipping Point), and yes, Jimmy Evans is my new favorite online pastor. 🙂
